In September 1958, Charles County Junior College, the predecessor to today's CSM, commenced evening at La Plata High School<ref>http://www.csmd.edu/50th/past/</ref>. Therefore, CSM is celebrating its fifty anniversary with a series of events throughout 2008<ref>http://www.csmd.edu/50th/NewsEvents/</ref>. Soon after, the college commenced an [[vocational education|apprenticeship program]] in 1960<ref>http://www.csmd.edu/about/history.html</ref>.
