Later in 1992, St. Mary's was designated an honors college. As part of the Maryland system of higher education, St. Mary's operates under the provisions of State Law, including the applicable policies and regulations of the Maryland Higher Education Commission and other State agencies. Within this framework, the authority to govern St. Mary's College of Maryland is vested in the Board of Trustees of the College.
